Sons of Ireland were formed in 1977, there first public march was 17th March 1978.
After marching in Rasharkin that morning, they marched the Falls Road to Casement Park.
It was a sunny day and the "Sons" according to the Irish News were the most applauded band there.
On return that evening they paraded in Kilrea and Rasharkin proudly carrying their first major trophy.
The "Sons" attended many parades and functions throughout the years and won a selection of trophies
and certificates, including 2nd in the All Ireland Marching Band Competition in 1978.
The "Sons" spent many successful years on the road travelling the length and breadth of Ireland attending
venues such as Belfast, Derry, Letterkenny, DownPatrick, Sligo etc and they achieved many things in these years.
Some more memorable than others!
Unfortunately this success was not to continue and in 1992 the Sons of Ireland disbanded.....
....So years later some of the "auld hands" decided to reform the "Sons" and get them on the road again.
And after months of dedication and hard work, on 17th March 2003 the "Sons" were back on the road once again,
and so it continues.........
